F WE CAN TEMPT YOU OUT OF THE POST OFFICE, it's well worth taking the time to explore the picturesque village of Harlaston. Located in the heart of the Mease Valley, the rolling and lush countryside is one of Staffordshire's best-kept secrets. The River Mease flows through the centre of the village and the area is intersected with bridleways and footpaths providing an easy and beautiful route to the National Forest, the National Memorial Arboretum and the canal network. To walk through the local countryside is the perfect antidote to the stresses and strains of modern life with beautiful views afforded all year round.   Harlaston is the current holder, and five times winner, of the best-kept village competition. It's easy to see why as the village has been unspoilt by the ravages of modern development. Key buildings of note include The Manor House, a timber-framed building dating to 1540, The Homestead, and the delightful St.Matthew's Church. The core of the church is Saxon and dates back to the 11th Century. Beautiful stained-glass and the half-timbered tower give the church a feel of it's own. Why not finish off your stroll by visiting the White Lion Public House where the food and hospitality is as fine and enjoyable as ours, where children are especially welcome, and the locals are as friendly as you could wish for?
